Indexable Drill Bits – U-Drills with Replaceable Inserts

Indexable U-Drills (also known as indexable drill bits) are the most cost-effective solution for drilling medium to large diameter holes (typically Ø12–50 mm) in high-volume production. Unlike solid carbide drills, the cutting edges are replaceable carbide inserts, resulting in extremely low cost per hole and easy maintenance.

Amony offers U-Drills in 2D, 3D, 4D and 5D lengths, compatible with two popular insert types: SPGT/SPMG (high-feed, high stability) and WCMT (general-purpose, balanced cutting force). These drills are widely used in steel, cast iron, stainless steel, alloy steel, and non-ferrous materials.

When to Choose Indexable U-Drills Over Solid Carbide Drills

Indexable U-Drills are preferred when:

  • Hole diameter > 20 mm

  • Hole depth ≤ 5×D

  • High-volume production or roughing operations

  • Machine power allows high feed rates

  • Cost per hole is a primary concern

For precision holes, deep holes (>8×D), or very small diameters (<12 mm="">
